Removal of oxides and weld heat tint
Pickling chemically removes scale, heat tint and the thin chromium-depleted surface layer beneath these oxides. It exposes a clean surface and creates the conditions for its natural protective layer to reform.

Demineralised water for every rinse
Thorough rinsing removes residual pickling agents, including from areas that are difficult to access. Demineralised water helps prevent stains and dried-droplet marks that ordinary water can leave. The result is a clean surface with a uniform appearance.

We use spray pickling where the dimensions or design of a component make immersion treatment unsuitable.
For large weldments, tanks and structures, the bath size or the ability to immerse the whole component may be limiting factors. Spraying allows the pickling agent to be applied directly to accessible surfaces requiring treatment.
We assess the appropriate treatment according to the dimensions, shape and surface accessibility. This is followed by thorough rinsing with demineralised water and final inspection of every part.
Welding produces oxides and heat tint on the stainless steel surface. Other manufacturing operations very often contaminate it with iron particles. Pickling and passivation help remove these unwanted layers and contaminants and restore surface corrosion resistance. These treatments prepare the surface for reliable use in service.
Pickling chemically removes scale, heat tint and the thin chromium-depleted surface layer beneath these oxides. It exposes a clean surface and creates the conditions for its natural protective layer to reform.
Passivation removes free iron and promotes the formation of a continuous chromium-rich protective layer. This very thin layer is the basis of stainless steel corrosion resistance.
Removing oxides and metallic contamination reduces sites where corrosion can develop.
A properly treated surface helps components fulfil their function over the long term under the conditions for which the material is intended.
Removing weld heat tint and thoroughly rinsing with demineralised water contribute to a uniform surface appearance.
Our stainless steel pickling and passivation procedures follow ASTM A380/A380M and ASTM A967/A967M.
